Vocalist - Composer
Yentl Verborgt (°1996) is a multifaceted vocalist and composer hailing from Belgium. Her music is rooted in jazz, but incorporates a diverse range of influences. Growing up listening to great jazz musicians such as Sarah Vaughan and Frank Sinatra, Yentl went on to study with Kristina Fuchs and Kurt Van Herck at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, where she completed her master’s degree in 2022.
Throughout her studies, Yentl was introduced to musicians who soon became her heroes, including Kenny Wheeler and Norma Winstone. She also fell in love with records released by the ECM label. These have had a significant impact on her music.
In the autumn of 2021, Yentl studied for a semester with Juliane Heinmann at the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona. In this bustling city, she developed her love for Spanish traditional music that complements her jazz oriënted education. Besides the jazz tradition and modern jazz music Yentl is passionate about South American traditional music. She specializes in these different southern styles and is very familiar with singing Spanish and Portuguese.
Yentl has performed in various venues and festivals throughout Belgium and Europe, including the North Sea Jazz Festival. She has collaborated with a number of talented musicians in a variety of different projects. She is not only a bandleader, but also performs as a sidewoman and backing vocalist.
Yentl’s music is characterized by her lyric melodies and contrasting grooves. She draws inspiration from a wide range of musical genres and traditions, which she blends together to create a unique and captivating sound.
